I met my husband over 11 years ago. We recently celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary. We have 3 children, Grant, who will be 7 next month, Logan, who will be 4 next month, and Kelsey, 2. Jason is a Registered Nurse. He currently works at Wellstar Douglas Hospital in the Emergency Department. I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician, retired into
home schooling after 10 years. I believe our home schooling journey began before our children were born. Shortly after we were married, we decided we wanted to have children. However, things did not work out as we hoped for at that time. We had 2 miscarriages, and then were unable to become pregnant again. During this time, we bought our first house and our new neighbors invited us to church with them. Jesus spoke to us and we became HIS children (praise God!!). At that point, we were able to give over the whole process to Him. Shortly after that, I became pregnant with Grant. Even when Grant was a baby, I felt led to homeschool. I knew nothing about it, but just felt prompted by the Lord to raise my own. This included not going back to work, as I originally planned, even though we could not afford to live on one income. Somehow, the Lord worked it all out for us.
I feel very secure in the knowledge that this is God’s plan for our family. I take comfort in Jeremiah 29:11 and have literally watched the Lord walk us through so many trials that I couldn’t imagine how we would get through. The truth was we couldn’t, in our own strength.
3 years ago, I made a quilt for my mother-in-law. Now, I am not a seamstress, in fact one day I simply decided I wanted to sew, and bought a sewing machine. I taught myself the basics and muddled through. I used the same muddle through approach with the quilt. I saw how truly devoted to family my husband’s mother is, and how much she enjoyed her grandchildren, and I wanted to honor that for Christmas. I spent a whole summer designing and assembling the quilt for her. It included pictures of her two children (my husband and his sister) as well as her 4 grandchildren. I am still amazed to say that it turned out beautifully. By the time I presented it to her that Christmas, I had just found out I was pregnant. I knew then that I would eventually be adding on to it. Now, 3 years and 2 new grandchildren (one from each of her children) later, I have the quilt back with the intention of somehow ripping seams and adding pictures of the newest girls.
The “community” we feel through Wisdom’s Way is incredible. I don’t know how we could have such a successful
home schooling experience without the wonderful friends that both my children and I have made along the way. This is only our second year with Wisdom’s Way, but I feel so truly blessed to have so many Godly families to surround ourselves with, so many who know how it feels in the trenches, and to rejoice with on the successes.
My wish for all of us is to always honor God in our home
schooling, and in everything we do.
